Designated substance survey for a demolition permit

The City of Windsor's demolition permit checklist asks for a list of designated substances. We survey the building and write a report you can attach to the permit application and the demolition tender.

What the survey covers

All 11 designated substances in the building, with locations, quantities and condition, plus other hazardous materials that affect demolition such as PCBs, mould and ozone-depleting refrigerants.

What usually follows

  • Abatement specification: scope of work, procedure type, quantities and bid review, $1,500–$5,000
  • Abatement oversight and air monitoring: daily inspections and reports during Type 2 or Type 3 work, $1,100 a day
  • Type 3 clearance: visual inspection and aggressive air testing before the enclosure comes down, $625–$900 a visit

Price and timing

Commercial work areas are $1,300 to $4,800 depending on size; a single house or suite is $550. Lab analysis is included and results come back within 1 week.

Independent from the abatement

We never remove or abate anything and take no referral fees, so the survey, the specification and the clearance are all written by someone with no stake in how much removal there is.
